Pocket change can go a long way. That’s what students at Bagley Elementary School have proved for the past month. Teachers say these kids exceeded expectations during their Pennies for Patients campaign sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Every morning, these fourth graders at Bagley Elementary School go door to door collecting change from their classmates. This is the first year the school is promoting Pennies for Patients, a donation program that supports children who suffer from various types of blood cancer.
Fourth grade teacher Cassie Dahl wanted to spearhead the campaign as a way to give back to those who helped her brother, who is a cancer survivor. But what she didn’t expect was the overwhelming generosity. A goal that was set at $600 for the whole three weeks was completed after a day. Currently, students have collected over $4-thousand and counting.
In return for their hard work and exceeding their goal, the Principal says he will spend the night on the playground. The Pennies for Patients campaign ends Friday for Bagley Elementary School, but donations are always being accepted year round.
