With under ten employees, Stittsworth Meats has made a big name for itself.
The family-owned Bemidji business is in the top one-percent of private businesses in the country for the largest number of Facebook followers.
Stittsworth has more than 15-thousand followers on Facebook.
Because of their success with social media, the small business has been highlighted in a recent broadband study.
Stittworth Meats was one of 12 businesses across the state surveyed for the Impact 20/20 Broadband Access Study. Of those companies, the largest had 200 employees and the smallest, just one.
A broadband task force selected businesses that best exemplify the importance of broadband access when building a business, especially in a rural community.
The study found that social media, specifically Facebook and Youtube, are more effective tools for growing a customer base than a company website.
And as Stittsworth Meats has shown, a successful business isn’t measured by the size of the company, but the size of its reach.
As a result of the study, several broadband training classes will be available for small business owners. Kick-off events are schedule in Bemidji and Crookston on February 18th.
